Creative process — a word from Pashi

For the past five years, I've been creating something that has become far more than a book.

What began as writing a memoir during the solitude of lockdown slowly evolved into a single work of art, told through many different creative mediums.

The words tell the story.

The recipes allow you to taste it.

The photography lets you see it.

The music allows you to feel it.

The website invites you to explore it.

The conversations allow you to become part of it.

Every element has been intentionally created to tell the same story from a different perspective.

Every photograph throughout the book was captured by me inside my own home during lockdown, teaching myself photography one image at a time. Every recipe was carefully chosen because it continues the emotional journey of the chapter before it, allowing food to become another form of storytelling. Every page, every layout, every design decision was created to feel less like reading a book and more like stepping into a memory.

But stories don't end when the final page is turned.

They continue.

That's why I built this website — not as an online bookstore, but as an extension of the world within the book.

The gallery is more than a collection of photographs. It invites readers to revisit the journey, recognise family members, friends, places, restaurants and moments hidden throughout the story. To ask questions. To share memories. To discover details they may have missed while reading. To connect photographs with chapters and chapters with real life.

The blog was never intended to be a place for announcements.

It is an ongoing conversation.

A place where readers can discuss chapters, ask questions, share their own memories, interpret moments differently and contribute to the story's continuing life. Once a story is shared, it no longer belongs solely to the author. It belongs to everyone who finds a piece of themselves within it.

Even the music was created with purpose. Rather than listening while reading, each chapter has its own original score designed to be experienced afterwards. Music has a remarkable ability to awaken emotions words often leave behind. It allows us to sit quietly with a chapter, reflect upon it, and discover feelings we may not have realised were there.

None of these pieces were ever meant to stand alone.

The photography without the story is simply an image.

The recipes without the memories are simply instructions.

The music without the words is simply a melody.

The website without the readers is simply another webpage.

Together...

They become something greater than the sum of their parts.

That is the art.

The Road to Kali is not simply a memoir.

It is not simply a cookbook.

It is not simply photography, music or design.

It is an invitation to experience a story with every sense available to us.

Perhaps that's the true purpose of this project.

Not to show what I created during lockdown...

But to remind us what is possible when creativity becomes more powerful than circumstance.

Because I have come to believe that every one of us carries an extraordinary gift.

Most of us spend our lives searching for it in moments of success.

Sometimes...

It is only in our darkest hours, when the world grows quiet enough to hear ourselves think, that we finally discover it.

The Road to Kali is the result of discovering mine.
